Asbestos has been used in a number of occupations above and even more in addition to those above. The latency period before mesothelioma starts becoming noticeable is 15 to 50 years, or more. That means that a person could have been exposed to asbestos 50 years ago, and develop mesothelioma today. The average time period for developing mesothelioma though, is 35-40 years.
